Install OpenSS

Install the signed desktop app or the source-based CLI on macOS.

Desktop installation

    Check your Mac

    Choose Apple menu → About This Mac. The current DMG requires an Apple Silicon chip.

    Open the DMG

    Download the versioned DMG from the OpenSS GitHub release.

    Install

    Drag OpenSS to Applications. If Finder finds an older copy, choose Replace.

    Launch

    Open OpenSS from Applications rather than running it from the mounted disk image.

CLI installation

The installer checks Git, native Python 3.12 and CPU architecture, creates the internal virtual environment, installs OpenSS and configures the command on PATH.

First launch

macOS may show a normal downloaded-app confirmation. OpenSS requests Screen Recording only when capture needs it, and microphone plus Speech Recognition only when voice input is started.
