What stays local by default

• Raw desktop voice audio and on-device transcription processing.
• macOS Keychain provider keys.
• SQLite conversation history when the default backend is used.
• Initial screenshot capture and OCR processing before submission.
• The localhost browser GUI and its launch session.

What can be sent

• Hosted AI: submitted prompts, transcript or OCR/image context passes through the OpenSS backend to its managed provider.
• BYOK: submitted content goes directly from the local OpenSS process to OpenAI or Anthropic.
• Account, subscription and hosted usage records are stored by OpenSS account services.
• MongoDB history is remote if you configure a remote database.

Screenshots and OCR

Capture and OCR start locally. When you request an AI answer, the captured image and OCR may be sent for that request to OpenSS-hosted AI and its managed provider, or directly to your selected BYOK provider. OpenSS does not upload screenshots before submission or provide a continuous screen stream.
